Hey AMGtech, do you think a Monster 1200 is a good starter bike? I know I should start out on something like a Street Triple, but I’m afraid I’d outgrow it in a few months. Plus my dad says anything less than 1200CCs is a girl’s bike.

I am “enjoying” tinkering on my first liter bike

Pppshhh anything less than a bored out, turbo ‘busa is a girl’s bike

I wish I started on something like a CRF250L or a WR250R. I think I liked the nighthawk more then the KLR for starting out though. But anyone who rides should give the 650cc dual sport class a look. Plenty of room behind the handlebars, enough oomph on the day to day, and tough as nails off road.

*Checks craigslist*
But I won’t be able to afford a jacket or boots. I guess I COULD just take it easy a few months until I can afford the gear.

I suggest an H2R. Headlights and legality are for girls and turbos have too much lag. I ride this heavy piece of crap because I’m too much of a wuss for a real man’s bike.

Nighthawk is a great starter bike. I doubt a fair amount of time in a 750 version. Little big, but they have smaller versions too.

Surely you jest, that bike only has 1000CCs. That is not nearly enough CCs.

Go watch Yammie Noob’s videos on YouTube.
Make sure you don’t do anything he does.

Fine! Triumph rocket! Or a boss hoss!

Are you sure? I thought trying to jump off the hood of a Porsche in an incoming lane sounded fun! Or playing motorcycle parkour with a boulder!

Or...

No. You can’t possible get the power down. Needs a rear tire from the viper too.

Traction is overrated, I figured you’d understand being from AMG land.

I mean, I know self-awareness is lacking in a lot of guys, but that twerp has none.

Cars are different. You need at least a little traction to do dank whoolies on a bike, especially one that long.

Fact. It took a long time after watching a few of his videos to get YouTube to stop putting him on my feed. He needs to go away before he gets others killed.

You’ve obviously never seen a ktm superduty do a rolling wheelie burnout
![]() 05/21/2018 at 20:45 |
|
It has four wheels so I assume it would be a good way to dip my toes into the motorcycle world safely, no?
![]() 05/21/2018 at 20:45 |

Did Ford and KTM have a joint venture I’m unaware of (superduty )? And I said a little traction, not all of the traction!

I noticed my auto-correct did that before I hit publish, it made me giggle, so I left it :p
![]() 05/21/2018 at 20:48 |

Four wheels, you don’t even need a helmet then!!
![]() 05/21/2018 at 20:54 |

That’s obviously a car
![]() 05/21/2018 at 20:58 |

I wasn’t going to track it so I mean I’m pretty sure a helmet isn’t necessary anyways

That foot position looks terrifyingly close to those spokes

And incredibly uncomfortable for the taint

Don’t worry, those pumas will protect him.

You’d still hop on the Tomahawk in an instant. Don’t try to deny it

I had. 650. It wasn’t bad but the 4 carburetor 4 cylinder motor was a pain in the ass. I’d recommend a 259cc instead. Or a rebel. Just so it’s easier to get on the road and get miles in. That’s why I love the single cylinder dual sports - you just hop on and ride.

I know I would

Absolutely

Fair point. The one I rode never needed anything beyond basic maintenance and never any carb work.

I started on a Suzuki gs500. Bought a SV650 within a few months. Im glad i didnt start on a 250 or 300. I would have hated myself haha.

250-300cc bikes have their place and are a great starting point for a lot of people though. Just not for everybody.

100cc dirt bike for me, then nighthawk 750. But grew up around Harleys so I was more or less used to the torque, weight, and feel of big stuff.
